I want Private Lessons with Alicia

Alicia has been teaching Rachel’s English Academy students since January, 2021. She has taught American English pronunciation, public speaking and acting in a classroom setting since 2008. She started teaching private ESL lessons in 2015. She has a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University and a Professional Acting Diploma from the 3-year Conservatory Program at Studio 58, a professional theatre training program in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

She was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. Her language models growing up were her parents, grandparents and the characters on television shows. She speaks French and lives in London, England. She had been using Rachel’s English content in her own private lessons for some time before joining the team, and is happy to be a part of what she considers the top accent training program.

When not teaching, Alicia likes sewing, cooking, meeting friends for dinner or coffee and going to museums, plays and concerts for fun.

We asked Alicia three questions that will help Academy members:

What is one piece of feedback that often makes a big difference for a student?

Don’t look at the words when you practice with a soundboard.  Listen to the audio as if you’re hearing sounds from another planet. Try to hear them in a new way and imitate what you hear.

What is a resource in the Academy that you feel should be used by more students?

The Community Group! It’s an opportunity to get feedback from the teachers, and also feel the support of other students. I think that it can be very uplifting and motivating to feel like you’re working alongside other students.

How do you motivate yourself to do challenging things?

I think about how I’ll be when I’ve achieved the goal I set out to do and get excited about that. I remind myself of why it’s important to me on a daily basis, and I work toward the goal on a daily basis. I love the quote: “Little by little, a little becomes a lot.”
